Cheikh Lô is a vocalist and drummer born in 1955 in Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso. He began his musical journey as a member of the Orchestre before moving to Senegal, where he performed with several mbalax bands starting in 1978. In 1985, he purchased his first guitar and began composing his own songs. Later, he relocated to Paris and worked as a studio musician. In 1990, he recorded his first cassette in Dakar, and in 1995, he released his debut album, "Ne La Thiass." Cheikh Lô is a Muslim and a member of the Baye Fall brotherhood, which is part of the larger Mouride brotherhood. Members of this group are known for wearing dreadlocks and are often mistakenly identified as Rastafarians.
