Kenneth Essex was a British violinist, later becoming a viola player, born on July 20, 1920, in Hinckley, Leicestershire, England. He entered a music institution in 1937 and joined the military during World War II. After the war, he was accepted into a prestigious music group, and shortly after, a new ensemble was formed where Kenneth participated in their quintet performances. He served as Principal Viola for several notable orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, and held this position until 1955. After leaving the LSO, he became a freelance musician and worked extensively as a session musician from the late 1940s onward. His diverse career included television, film, and popular music recordings, notably playing in the string quartet that backed The Beatles on "Yesterday." Additionally, he performed in Royal Variety Performances and participated in Eurovision Song Contests, being part of the orchestra when the UK won in Brighton.
