Pornosect is a band formed in West London in 1984 by Elisabeth Clark and an unnamed member. Early on, they featured contributions from Daniel Roper (guitar), Michael B (bass), and Peter Shyjka (aka Seb, MC, percussion, and tape effects). Existing on the periphery of the industrial electronic scene, their focus was on constructing rhythmic soundscapes and applying techniques from electro-acoustic music and musique concrète through the lens of dub production. Heavily influenced by the punk ethos of Throbbing Gristle and the Pop Group, their sound benefited from ambient post-production that smoothed out harsher edges. Their material was primarily recorded on 8-track at Strangeways Sound Studios and mixed on 16-track at RMS in South London, engineered by Andy Le-Vien. The last recording sessions led to the 1988 album "Of Resonances and Divine Things" released on an unnamed label. A compilation of this and earlier material titled "The Noose and the Spear" also appeared on an unnamed label. The first two cassette releases, "Recreation and Relaxation" and "The Essential Question," are scheduled for vinyl re-release in North America in 2023. Andrew Leeds Burton later collaborated with Andrew Beer and Tony Thorpe to found the Funky Alternatives compilation series and subsequently became the managing director of an unnamed entity.
