Gayance
Gayance, the pseudonym of Aïsha Vertus, has been gaining momentum through original sets and music since 2013. Growing up in Montreal, Canada, she has since made multiple artistic families in Europe and Latin America - spreading joy and connection wherever she resides.
Collecting many accolades over the past decade, her next embodiment of personal musings and growth is a debut album entitled Mascarade which released on Bradley Zeros’s London-based, internationally renowned label Rhythm Section on March 3rd, 2023. Her debut album was short-listed for a Polaris Music Prize the same year, a rare thing for an artist without management representation.
Aïsha has an eye for directing, a love for storytelling, and an ear to the ground. She's a freelance writer for Red Bull Music Academy and The Fader in tandem with being a music programming consultant at POP. She also creatively curated the exhibition ‘’Visions Hip Hop QC’’ at PHI Center and directed her first movie, Piu Piu, a film about beatmakers featuring Kaytranada and receiving recognition in Montreal, Paris, Brussels, Los Angeles, and Texas. Next year, Gayance will also birth Mascarade, the film. The project was short-listed for a Young Directors Award at Cannes in June 023.
With a desire to create beyond the boundaries, her debut EP, No Toning Down, came out as an independent release. Sirens feat. KALLITECHNIS came on Sherelle’s label Beautiful Music (2021), and Kinda Strange (2021) is an ode to underground UKG, accompanied by gospel-style backing vocals as she honors her upbringing.
Gayance has a mind to move and surprise us, and she is prepared to do just that. She performed at Panorama Bar, Fabric, and Jazz Café in London, Dekmantel, Lowlands Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, Djoon in Paris, and many other iconic venues in Europe, the UK, and Canada.
