Jay Glass Dubs
One of the leading lights of contemporary electronic music, Dimitris Papadatos (b.1981,USA) aka Jay Glass Dubs, is a composer, musician, producer and sound artist based in Athens Greece.
The main concern in his work is an apposition of disparate elements that assume a re-appropriation of historically applied methodologies while questioning forms of empowering them.
The biggest body of his work reflects issues as copyright, spirituality and originality, undergoing a constant state of transfiguration of its outsourcing.
Under his nom de plume Jay Glass Dubs, embarks on an avant-garde exploration of dub music, interrogating the genre's ontological boundaries. His work operates within the dialectic of tradition and innovation, where the foundational rhythms and textures of dub are subverted and recontextualized through minimalist and ambient modalities. In this sonic praxis, Papadatos engages in a form of negative dialectics, wherein the familiar structures of dub are deconstructed, allowing for the emergence of new auditory forms.
His compositions, rich in atmospheric density, challenge the listener to transcend conventional auditory perception, inviting a critical engagement with the possibilities of music as both art and critique.
As a review of Boomkat of his 2020 work, ‘SOMA’ suggests, his latest work focuses on a : ‘ direction into forms of alter-pop that come to resemble modernists such as Arca, but still with that primitive-futurist appeal rooted in dub and Greek myth.’
As Jay Glass Dubs, he has released a solid body of work on the likes of Bokeh Versions, The Tapeworm, anòmia, DFA Records, Ecstatic, and Berceuse Heroique having also collaborated on critically acclaimed releases with Not Waving (as Not Glass), Guerilla Toss and Leslie Winer.
His frequent collaborations echelon a variable array of creators, such as writer Louis Chude Sokei, artists Georgia Sagri, poet and voice artis Vittoria de Franchis and musician Laura Agnusdei, to name a few.
