Kevin 'Slow Jammin' James
Born in Punxsutawney, PA, he moved to Philadelphia with his mother and sister following the death of his father. He joined the U.S. Army and served 3½ years as a Counterintelligence Special Agent, stationed at the Pentagon as a Liaison Officer. He worked the all-night shift and attended broadcasting school during the day, which led him into the broadcasting field as a DJ.
His radio journey included stations such as WKYS in Washington, D.C., WPGC in D.C., 92.3 THE BEAT in Los Angeles, Dash Radio (which became LittLive), and now his new home, ROVR RADIO. He coined the term "Slow Jam" for radio in 1983 while at WKYS. Until then, slower songs were typically referred to as ballads. Today, "Slow Jam" is the most recognized name for the genre.
He has worked with many recognizable rappers, including Snoop Dogg, Daz Dillinger, Kurupt (Tha Dogg Pound), Eazy-E, L’il Eazy-E, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, and many more. He is also the voice of WBALLZ (trademark Kevin James). The original voice was Ricky Harris (Rest In Heaven), who, along with Snoop Dogg, conceived the idea of the fictional radio station 187.4 on your FM dial, WBALLZ (Caution: Don’t try to find it on your radio - it’s a fictitious station, but iconic in its own right).
