Lady C
DJ Lady C, aka Christina Gubala, is a DJ/writer in Los Angeles. She is the co-founder of Complicated Dance Steps, a micro-cassette label from the 2010s that released works from Kyle Dixon, Tom Hall, and many other noisy synthesists. During that same cassette era, she served as Big Joy Records' creative director and in-house graphic designer.
Lady C's radio presence took shape in the early 2000's on UCLA's college radio station, UCLAradio.com, and she has since hosted programs on KCHUNG AM 1630, Pitchfork Radio LA, PooBah Radio, and for the last decade, dublab. Her guest DJ sets are in the archives of Rinse FM in London, KXLU 88.9 FM in LA, and Deep House in Tehran.
Christina has written extensively for various LA publications, including LA Record, interviewing the illustrious likes of Martin Rev, Suzanne Ciani, Harold Budd, Michael Rother, and many more. Lady C's vinyl DJ residencies have included LA's Caña Rum Bar, The Los Angeles Athletic Club, Compound Long Beach, Townhouse Venice, and the Grand Star Jazz Club. As a former employee of Jacknife Records and Tapes, High Fidelity Records, and PooBah Records, she has enjoyed insight into the inside world of LA's thriving record culture.
