Pat.James Longo
Primitive Sound System - Pat. James Longo is an artist and drummer who is passionate about sound.
In the late 1980s, he co-ran the legendary NYC, Lower East Side, vinyl-only record shop Finyl Vinyl for over fifteen years. During this time, he drummed with his group Hippopotamus and their alter-ego Project3.
In the late 90s, he was the VP and project coordinator for Grooovy Sounds Unltd., an NYC-based independent record label that released compilations, new music, distributed Indian Ragas, incense, streetwear, and more.
He was featured in the Dust & Grooves book, and on the site. Eilon Paz, the creator, dubbed him The Godfather of Dust & Grooves. Pat gathered collectors who became subjects for Eilon. He was part of the book design team for the initial release and featured as part of the promotions doing radio interviews, live mixes, and question and answer sessions.
As a DJ he has been a guest on the independent radio station WFMU. Amongst those many appearances, Pat provided the soundtrack for Joe Bataan and Harvey Averne's visits with DJ Trouble. He was the house DJ for the duration of Pat Byrne's late night show, Prove It All Night!. He has been fortunate to spin beyond bars in such venues as The Guggenheim, The Frying Pan, Saks Fifth Avenue, and house parties.
Pat developed several popular nights like Sabroso!, a weekly Latin, Soul, and Funk night at legendary Hoboken club, Maxwell's, First Thursdays, a monthly gig at Hoboken's prime dive bar, D. C.'s Tavern, and Sunday Matinee at Jersey City Height's Lo-Fi Bar where he featured different DJ's playing music across all genres.
