Peter Matson
Peter Matson is a Brooklyn, NY-based musician, producer, and DJ.
As founder and leader of the seminal NYC post-punk afro band Underground System, he’s toured internationally and produced their records on Soul Clap, Hell Yeah, and Planet E, with recent releases on Razor-N-Tape and Heavenly Sweetness. His most recent solo releases and remixes are finding their home on Brooklyn-based label Bastard Jazz, Razor-N-Tape, as well as Heist Recordings.
Peter occupies a unique and rarefied space in the dance music world, both equally at home playing extended all-night sets in the darkest basement DJ booth or wielding multiple instruments on massive festival stages. As a performer and DJ, he has seen it all: from The Apollo Theatre to Central Park NYC Summerstage, from Nightmoves and Public Records in BK to loft parties of Mexico City, to Eurockeenes de Belfort, Fusion Festival in Germany, or headlining Laurent Garnier’s ‘Festival Yeah!’ In Lourmarin, France.
His writing & production work has appeared in the soundtracks of shows on HBO, Netflix, and Comedy Central, in Apple keynote addresses, and in the New York Film Festival, among other placements. Keeping company with a dizzying intersectionality of noteworthy artists in the global music community is a testament to the quality and consistency of raw musical output produced by one of Brooklyn's most ambitious upcoming artists. As Peter readies new releases, including his debut solo LP, we suggest you book a room soon… It's going to be a worthwhile stay.
