SMARTBOMB
SMARTBOMB was founded as a monthly live art and music party. Since 2013, it has grown to become a world-renowned creative community and live events/multimedia platform, widely recognized as a vital resource in discovering and celebrating the next great boundary-pushing and genre-defying musicians, producers, beatmakers, DJs, painters, visual artists, filmmakers, photographers, and more from the Bay Area and beyond.
SMARTBOMB continues to exist as a hub for the creative community, collaborating with SFMOMA, ICA SF, Exploratorium, SFJAZZ, Gray Area, The Legion Of Honor, and more for curatorial event takeovers. SMARTBOMB is also preparing to launch a musical imprint, further expanding the universe and introducing new artists to the world.
W.A.L.A (also known as Asonic Garcia) is the founder of SMARTBOMB and an artist, producer, musician, and curator in the Oakland Bay Area of California. Finding a passion for music in the Bay Area independent hip-hop scene of the late 90s/early 2000s, Garcia would find himself immersed in the studies of underground art/music movements and their cultural impacts of the past while throwing and performing DIY shows in his hometown of Vallejo, CA and recording early demos using an SP-505 sampler, radio shack microphone, and a 4 track tape machine.
Garcia currently releases music and art as W.A.L.A, with albums, photography books, and film projects to come. W.A.L.A also spins at local vinyl residencies and has featured mixes on LOWER GRAND RADIO, NTS, BALAMII RADIO, and more.
