5 CV is a Belgian New Wave band hailing from Aalst. Formed in 1979, they initially started as a school band called Shit. The band draws influence from The Police and Fisher Z. In 1982, they achieved recognition by winning third prize in a competition. The name 5 CV (Cinq Chevaux in French) translates to 5 Horse Power. The band consists of Jan Moens on bass, Nicolas Lateste on vocals and guitar, Dirk Van Hoorde on drums, Peter Van Mulders on lead guitar and vocals, and Philippe "Phil" Coen on synthesizers.
