Aalon was an American soul/rock group formed in Los Angeles in 1976, led by singer and guitarist Butler, who had previously played with Eric Burdon in the mid-1970s. The band included Juan Luis Cabaza on keyboards, Luther Rabb on bass, and Ron Hammond on drums. They signed with Arista Records and released their debut album, 'Cream City,' in 1977, produced by Jerry Goldstein. Butler provided all lead vocals and wrote most of the songs, drawing inspiration from artists like Sly & the Family Stone, Graham Central Station, Ike & Tina Turner, and the Isley Brothers. Despite being a soul-funk gem with rock influences, 'Cream City' did not achieve the commercial success it deserved, and Aalon never recorded a second album. However, Butler continued to perform in Los Angeles throughout the late '70s and '80s.
