Abbey Lincoln was an American jazz singer and civil rights activist, born on August 6, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois. She passed away in New York on August 14, 2010. Abbey was married to a drummer from 1962 to 1970. Throughout her six-decade career, she recorded more than 20 albums, wrote her own songs, and acted in several films and television shows. She was also a pioneering voice in the civil rights movement.
