Abel Ferreira was born on February 15, 1915, in Coromandel, Minas Gerais, and passed away on April 13, 1980, in Rio de Janeiro. A self-taught musician, he faced obstacles in his education as his family required him to work from a young age. His musical journey began secretly, inspired by the local band orchestra. He started playing harmonica at age five, bamboo flute at seven, and at twelve, he began learning music theory using a method from the 1920s called "Artinha." Under the guidance of a local professor, Hipácio Gomes, he learned to play the clarinet. At fifteen, he discovered the alto saxophone and traveled hours by train to see it for the first time, teaching himself to play. Abel Ferreira possessed perfect pitch and became skilled in music theory, arrangements, and piano. He was deeply connected to music, often carrying his clarinet with him. He debuted with a local band and later performed in orchestras, catching the attention of Carmen Miranda during a show in Pocos de Caldas. After moving to São Paulo, he became a professional musician. In 1942, he recorded his first song, "Crying Softly," and the following year, he moved to Rio to perform in casinos and on the radio.
