**Bio of Acanthus** Acanthus began in 1967 as a small group of young Parisians, averaging 17 years old, originally performing covers under the name The Bayens. The collective consisted of Daniel Buffet, Francis Bendichou, Guy Ouly, and Jean Vazon, typically performing at venues like Bus Palladium and Golf Drouot. In 1969, guitarist Gérard Salette joined the group, leading to a name change to Acanthus and a shift from covers to original compositions. By early 1970, they had composed a lengthy suite titled "Tryphasys," which was ready for live performance. They met underground film producer Jean-Philippe Delamarre, who introduced them to filmmaker Jean Rollin. Acanthus was invited to create the score for Rollin's film "Le frisson des vampires," which was released in theaters in 1970 and aired on television in July 1998. Around the same time, they recorded music for a short film titled "Liberta" for Delamarre's brother, Jean-Noël. This music was entirely improvised and recorded in a single take while the film was projected in front of them. After witnessing a concert by Magma, which had not yet released its first album, the group was inspired to pursue a record deal.
