Achwghâ Ney Wodei is a band formed in the mid-1980s at Paris Tolbiac University, consisting of Françoise Boitière (drums, keyboards, vocals), Didier ‘Higgins’ Copp (bass, percussion, vocals), Eric ‘Riton’ Sterenfield (guitar, keyboards, percussion, vocals), and Phillippe ‘Wodi’ Royer (percussion, trumpet, bass, vocals). They became part of the artist community squatting in the disused Hôpital Bretonneau, known as L’Hôpital Ephémère, which fostered artistic experimentalism among musicians, visual artists, actors, and writers. The band released their first two cassettes in 1986, with the first featuring a unique plaster model of a Citroën DS as its packaging. Their final release, ‘Triptyque’, a 3×12” album produced by Simon Crabb in 1987, featured handmade cover art created by ten French artists, including Xavier Veilhan and Pierre Bismuth.
