Adele Bertei, born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1955, has traversed the music scene across New York, Berlin, Amsterdam, London, and beyond. She was discovered singing at a bar and invited to join Peter And The Wolves, forming a close friendship with Peter Laughner, who bought her first guitar. After Laughner's untimely death in 1977, Bertei moved to New York, immersing herself in the No Wave scene. Though untrained on the keyboard, she became the original keyboardist for a band, showcasing her instinctive rhythmic style on an Ace Tone organ before leaving after their first album. In 1978, while working as a personal assistant to Brian Eno, she took him to concerts in New York, leading to the production of a landmark LP. Musically, she is primarily known as a vocalist and formed an all-female band in 1980, recognized as the first openly queer band. Bertei achieved success with hits on the music charts, including her 1983 dance/disco hit, produced by a notable figure. She provided backup vocals for Thomas Dolby's "Hyperactive" and sang on a 1988 U.K. hit by another producer. Her single "You Can't Blame Me" was an adult contemporary hit from her debut solo album in 1988. In addition to her music career, she has also been active in film and television and is a published author.
