The Adolescents are a punk rock band from Fullerton, CA, formed in 1980 by Steve Soto, who was the original bass player for another band. Soto teamed up with Tony Brandenburg, known by multiple aliases, and initially approached guitarist Rikk Agnew, who recommended his younger brother, Frank, instead. The lineup was completed by another guitarist and a drummer. Rikk Agnew soon changed his mind about playing and was replaced by himself and a friend. After recording their first LP, Rikk Agnew left, and his place was taken by another guitarist and then by Royer's roommate, who appeared on the band's follow-up 7", "Welcome To Reality," released in 1981. However, the band split shortly thereafter. In 1986, Montana, Rikk Agnew, and Steve Soto reunited, adding drummer and guitarist (Rikk and Frank's younger brother). This lineup released "Brats In Battalions" in 1987. Following the recording, Alfie left and was replaced by another member. Colburn was later replaced by another musician. Tony departed the following year, leading Rikk and Steve to share vocal duties for 1988's "Balboa Fun Zone." Frank Agnew returned soon after, and the Blue Album lineup had live appearances in 1989, one of which was released as "Return To The Black Hole" in 1997, but the band split again that year.
