Adriana Evans, also known as Adriana Madera, is an American R&B vocalist born in San Francisco, California. She is recognized as one of the first Neo soul artists. Growing up in a musical environment, her mother, Mary Stallings, sang with jazz legends like Count Basie, and her godfather is jazz saxophonist Pharoah Sanders. At 18, Adriana moved to Los Angeles, intending to attend college, where she met rapper Dred Scott. Their friendship blossomed into a musical collaboration, with Adriana appearing on Scott's "Check the Vibe" in 1993. She relied heavily on Scott for production on her debut album. Paul Stewart, CEO of PMP Records, played a pivotal role in securing a deal for her with Capitol Records during the 1990s after being impressed by her demo and her appearance in Scott’s video.
