Aerosmith is an American rock band, often referred to as "the Bad Boys from Boston" and "America's Greatest Rock and Roll Band." Formed in 1970 in Boston, Massachusetts, their style is rooted in blues-based hard rock and has evolved to include elements of pop rock, heavy metal, and rhythm and blues, influencing many subsequent rock artists. The band was founded by guitarist Joe Perry and bassist Tom Hamilton, who had previously played together in a band called the Jam Band. They were joined by vocalist Steven Tyler, drummer Joey Kramer, and guitarist Ray Tabano. In 1971, Tabano was replaced by Brad Whitford, and the band began to cultivate a following in Boston.
