African Head Charge is an experimental and tribal percussion act with a strong dub and world music influence, formed in 1981. The group has seen various members over the years, but Bonjo I has remained a constant presence. In its early days, much of the music was written by another member, and the band served as a platform for his experimental work under a nascent label. As African Head Charge evolved through the 1980s, Bonjo's role became increasingly significant, culminating in his position as vocalist and primary multi-percussion instrumentalist by the time of their fifth album, the classic "Songs Of Praise." He also took on the role of primary songwriter, although other contributors emerged, notably from the group. With a continually changing lineup, African Head Charge is still active today, performing live shows around the world.
