Afrosound was a Colombian musical group formed in response to the early 1970s Chicha movement in Peru. José María Fuentes recognized the popularity of this emerging hybrid cumbia sound and created a super group under Discos Fuentes. Produced by Julio Estrada (Fruko El Bueno), Afrosound blended Andean guitar sounds with elements of funk, salsa/son, tropical, disco, and Afro-Colombian rhythms. The result was a series of cumbia party albums that delivered energetic music from start to finish.
