Afrosound was a Colombian musical group formed in response to the early 1970s Chicha movement in Peru. Led by José María Fuentes, the group was created as a super group under Discos Fuentes to capitalize on the popularity of this new hybrid cumbia sound. Produced by Julio Estrada (Fruko El Bueno), Afrosound combined Andean guitar influences with elements of funk, salsa/son, tropical, disco, and Afro-Colombian rhythms. The result was a series of cumbia party albums that delivered energetic music from start to finish.
