Afrosound was a Colombian musical group formed in response to the Chicha movement that emerged in Peru during the early 1970s. Founded by José María Fuentes, the group was essentially a supergroup from Discos Fuentes, inspired by the popularity of the hybrid cumbia sound. Produced by Julio Estrada (Fruko El Bueno), Afrosound blended Andean guitar sounds with elements of funk, salsa/son, tropical, disco, and Afro-Colombian rhythms. The result was a series of vibrant cumbia party albums that delivered energetic music from start to finish.
