Afternoons in Stereo is the musical project of Canadian musician and graphic designer Greg Vickers. The project blends digital-era production with a warm sense of genuine instrumentation, creating a distinct groove that combines jazz and funk elements. The sound features brassy horns, thumping bass, breezy flutes, and Latin percussion, resulting in reflective and laid-back stylings that extend beyond the dancefloor, often incorporating cinematic tones and textures. To date, Afternoons in Stereo has independently released four albums. The debut album, 'Aural Pleasure', was released in 2004, followed by 'Leaves Of Brass' in 2006, which won the Hamilton Music Award for Best Electronic Album. The third album, 'The City Is Sleeping', was released in 2008 and earned the HMA for Best Instrumental Album. The fourth album, 'The Silence Between Phrases', came out in the summer of 2010 on the Timewarp Music label, with a fifth album titled '5' released on May 20, 2013. In addition to recording, Afternoons in Stereo hosts the popular radio program 'Urban Modernists', which airs weekly and focuses on new and classic jazz, fusion, funk, and breaks, aiming to connect the old and the new. The show can be heard live on Thursdays at 10:30 pm EST on 93.3 CFMU FM and rebroadcast on Tuesdays at 9:00 CET on lounge-radio.com.
