Age Of Chance was a British alternative rock-dance crossover band from Leeds, England, active from 1985 to 1991. They gained recognition for their unique mutant metallic cover of Prince's "Kiss." Their music was characterized by a fusion of punk, hip hop, industrial rock, and Northern soul. The band featured a distinctive vocal style from Steven E, who often used a megaphone but left before the release of their album 'Mecca.' The striking cover art visuals were a collaboration with The Designers Republic, known for their graphic design work. Age Of Chance were contemporaries of Pop Will Eat Itself, sharing a similar sound that combined rock guitar, dance beats, and numerous samples, alongside other early UK samplist groups like Coldcut and The JAMMs. The band consisted of members Steven Elvidge (mob-orator), Geoff Taylor (all nite bass frequencies), Neil Howson (power-noise generator), Jan Perry (beat dominator), and Charles Hutchinson (singer on Mecca). They also toured with a scratch DJ.
