**Bio of Águias Reais** Águias Reais is a musical group formed by former students of the Casa Pia de Luanda, a boys' boarding school and charity institution that trained young people in trades and arts. The group emerged on the Angolan artistic scene in 1964, initially led by António Nunes da Costa (clarinet), along with Nicácio Gomes (voice and dikanza), Manuel António (saxophone), Ângelo Manuel Quental (clarinet and later guitar soloist), Carlos Lamartine (voice and tambourine), and António Manuel Gonçalves, known as Massangano (rhythm guitar). In the next phase, António Imperial (Baião) joined the group, along with Manuel Claudino (Manuelito), a bass player. Although Baião had a brief tenure, Constantino (solo guitar) and Gino (rhythm guitar) from Kinito’s África Ritmos later became members. Carlos Lamartine continued as a vocalist, and they also welcomed Gregório Mulato (bongos), his brother. Throughout their career, Águias Reais accompanied several artists, including David Zé, Urbano de Castro, and Mamukueno, recording for the Rebita label and Valentim de Carvalho’s N’Gola.
