Águias Reais is a musical group that originated in 1964 from former students of Casa Pia de Luanda, a boys' boarding school and charity institution that trained young people in various trades and arts. The group was initially driven by António Nunes da Costa on clarinet, along with Nicácio Gomes (voice and dikanza), Manuel António (saxophone), Ângelo Manuel Quental (originally a clarinet player, later the guitar soloist), Carlos Lamartine (voice and tambourine), and António Manuel Gonçalves, known as Massangano (rhythm guitar). In the subsequent phase of the group, António Imperial (Baião) joined, bringing experience as a soloist with Ângelo Quental, while Manuel Claudino (Manuelito) came on board as the bass player. Baião's tenure was brief, followed by the addition of Constantino (solo guitar) and Gino (rhythm guitar) from Kinito’s África Ritmos. Carlos Lamartine continued as a vocalist, and the group invited Gregório Mulato (bongos), who was Carlos's brother. Throughout their career, Águias Reais accompanied several artists, including David Zé, Urbano de Castro, and Mamukueno, working with labels such as Rebita and Valentim de Carvalho’s N’Gola.
