Al Foster was an American jazz drummer born on January 18, 1943, in Richmond, Virginia, USA. He passed away on May 28, 2025. Foster was a member of Miles Davis's band for 13 years, from 1972 to 1985, during which time he was one of the few individuals to maintain contact with Davis during his retirement from 1975 to 1981. After leaving Miles Davis in 1985, Foster continued to work independently, taking on roles as both a leader and a sideman.
