Alanis Obomsawin is a Canadian filmmaker, singer, and activist of Abenaki descent. Born on August 31, 1932, in Lebanon, New Hampshire, she has dedicated much of her life to documenting the experiences and stories of Indigenous peoples in Canada. Obomsawin is known for her work with the National Film Board of Canada, where she has produced numerous documentaries that highlight social issues, culture, and history related to Indigenous communities. In addition to her filmmaking, she is also a singer and has released several albums that reflect her heritage and experiences.
