Aldous Harding, born Hannah Harding, is a New Zealand singer/songwriter known for her gothic folk style and emotional depth. Growing up in Lyttelton near Christchurch, she was influenced by her musician parents, particularly her mother, a folk singer. At the age of 13, she made her recording debut on her mother's award-winning album, Clean Break. Initially reluctant to pursue music due to its precarious nature, Harding shifted her focus from becoming a veterinarian to singing and songwriting, collaborating with friend Nadia Reid. By 2008, she was performing backup vocals for the string band the Eastern and received an early break when Anika Moa invited her to open for her after spotting her busking. In 2012, she changed her name to Aldous and co-produced her self-titled debut album with Marlon Williams and Ben Edwards, which received critical acclaim and led to extensive touring. For her follow-up album, Party, released in 2017, she signed with British independent label 4AD and worked with co-producer John Parish, releasing singles such as "Horizon" and "Imagining My Man."
