Alexey Lvovich Rybnikov, born on July 17, 1945, in Moscow, is a prominent modern Russian composer. He is renowned for his contributions to the first Soviet and Russian musicals, including the rock-operas "Star and Death of Joaquin Murrieta" (1976) and "Juno and Avos" (1981), which has been performed over 700 times. Rybnikov has also composed music for numerous plays, operas, and more than 80 Russian films. By 1989, over 10 million discs featuring his music had been sold.
