Alemayehu Eshete was an influential Ethiopian singer, born in June 1941 in Jimma, Ethiopia. He passed away on September 2, 2021, in Addis Ababa due to heart disease. His parents separated when he was six months old, and he spent much of his early life with his mother in Dessie, Wollo province. Alemayehu returned to Addis Ababa at the age of three to attend the Christian Training Institute, where his singing talent was first recognized through hymns. He later earned the nickname "Ethiopian Elvis." Alemayehu began his professional career in the early 1960s after being discovered by Colonel Redda Demeke, who invited him to join a band. He achieved his first hit with the song "Seul" in 1961. By the end of the 1960s, he had become a prominent figure in the Swinging Addis scene, playing a key role in the development of Ethiopian pop music on vinyl. He co-founded the Alem-Girma Band with Girma Beyene and released numerous records throughout the 1970s, primarily under the Philips and Amha labels. His work continued to gain recognition in the 1980s and 1990s, particularly after being featured in the Ethiopiques series. In the 2000s and 2010s, he toured Europe and the U.S., further expanding his audience. Alemayehu's funeral at the Holy Trinity
