Alex Chilton (December 28, 1950 - March 17, 2010) was an American songwriter, guitarist, singer, and producer, known for his work with pop-music bands. He gained early commercial success in the 1960s as a teen vocalist for the Box Tops. Although he did not replicate that success in his later years, he cultivated a loyal following in the indie and alternative music scenes. Chilton was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and passed away in New Orleans, Louisiana.
