Alex Cuba is a singer-songwriter from Artemisa, Cuba, who currently resides in Smithers, B.C. His music blends sugarcane-sweet melodies, pop-soul hooks, and rock chords, challenging traditional notions of Cuban music. Alex's musical journey reflects his geographical path, as he is not bound by tradition and prefers his vintage Gibson guitar over traditional instruments. He began his musical career at a young age, making his first national TV appearance at four years old, playing claves in a group led by his father. Throughout his teenage years, he dedicated himself to studying guitar, tres, percussion, and bass, practicing up to eight hours a day. After recording "Morumba Cubana" with his twin brother Adonis as The Puentes Brothers, Alex chose to forge his own path. His debut album with the Alex Cuba Band, "Humo De Tabaco," won a Juno award for World Music Album in 2006, and the single "Lo Mismo Que Yo," featuring Ron Sexsmith, reached the Top 20 on BBC Radio 2. For "Humo," he collaborated with UK producer Martin Terefe, bringing a unique sound that has also influenced Terefe's work with artists like Craig David, Ron Sexsmith, and Jason Mraz.
