Alexander 'Skip' Spence was born on April 18, 1946, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. He was a guitarist in an early line-up of a band before being recruited to be the drummer for Jefferson Airplane. After contributing to their debut album, he left to co-found another band, taking on the role of guitarist once again. Spence passed away on April 16, 1999, at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz, California.
