Alexander Skip Spence was born on April 18, 1946, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. He passed away on April 16, 1999, at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz, California. Spence was a guitarist in an early line-up of a band before being recruited as the drummer for Jefferson Airplane. After contributing to their debut album, he left to co-found another band, once again taking on the role of guitarist.
