Alfonso Ramos, known as "The Legend - Alfonso Ramos...El Mero Leon De La Sierra," was a prominent Tejano artist born on October 22, 1936. He came from a family of talented musicians, and his musical abilities were first recognized by his uncles, one of whom invited him to perform with his band, "Justin Perez and his G.I.'s." It was during this time that he learned to play the saxophone, becoming one of the smoothest saxophonists of his era. He later formed his own band, Alfonso Ramos Y Su Orchestra, with the help of his brothers and occasionally his sister, quickly establishing himself as an Ambassador of Tejano music. With over one hundred recorded albums, he was honored with inductions into the Tejano Music Awards Hall of Fame and the Tejano R.O.O.T.S. Hall of Fame. Alfonso Ramos passed away on October 4, 2016.
