Algebra Suicide was a musical duo formed in Chicago, Illinois, active from 1982 to 1994. The group consisted of Lydia Tomkiw, whose poetry was delivered in a deadpan voice, and Don Hedeker, who provided minimal post-punk-influenced guitar complemented by drum machine and keyboard sequencing. Despite receiving more critical acclaim than commercial success, they toured Europe twice, incorporating slide projections into their performances. Throughout the 1980s, they networked with various artists and underground tape labels, earned several awards, and managed a now-defunct homepage run by Clive Barker, known for his work on Hellraiser. They also published poetry and operated Chicago's Link Hall Club. After their split, Don formed The Polkaholics, releasing their first album in 1998, while Lydia released a solo album in 1995 and later focused on writing.
