Ali Jihad Racy, born in 1943 in Ibl al-Saqi, Southern Lebanon, is a Lebanese-born American performer and composer who moved to the USA in 1968. He holds a PhD in Musicology and serves as a Professor of Ethnomusicology at the University of California, Los Angeles. Racy is internationally recognized for his exceptional musicianship and his numerous publications, including the award-winning book, "Making Music in the Arab World: The Culture and Artistry of Tarab," published by Cambridge University Press in 2003. He is a master of various traditional instruments, particularly the nay and the buzuq.
