Almafuerte was a heavy metal band from Buenos Aires, Argentina, active from 1995 to 2016. The band was named after the Argentine poet Pedro Bonifacio Palacios, known as Almafuerte. Formed in 1995 after the disbandment of another group, they opened for notable acts in 1995, 1999, and 2005. Almafuerte was one of the few local metal bands to sell out tickets for a performance at a soccer stadium, playing in front of 25,000 fans at Estadio Islas Malvinas in 2013. Their lyrics, written by Iorio, primarily focused on nationalism and human and social issues, with some songs being covers of or influenced by Argentine folk music.
