Alberto Almarza, a virtuoso flutist hailed by the Boston Globe, brings a unique and passionate approach to music. His versatility spans adventurous contemporary pieces to Baroque works on period instruments. A native of Chile, Almarza previously served as Principal Flute of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Santiago. He studied under Jeanne Baxtresser in New York and Julius Baker at Carnegie Mellon University, where he earned his Master's degree. Currently, he is an Associate Professor of Flute and Head of the Flute Department at Carnegie Mellon. Almarza has premiered numerous compositions, including four flute concertos, and has performed with ensembles like the Boston Modern Orchestra Project.
