Alphaville is a German synth-pop band formed in 1982 in Münster, initially starting as a trio with vocalist Gold and synth players Lloyd and Mertens. The band participated in a concert with five other artists as Nelson Community at the end of 1981. Originally named Forever Young, they changed their name after a few months, inspired by the film "Alphaville: The City of the Future," which better represented their project. Mertens left the band in late 1984 and was replaced by another member in early 1985. Alphaville remains active today, performing concerts and promoting re-mastered re-releases of their first albums.
