Also is a Gothic Rock band hailing from Kiel, Germany, formed in 1990 by Alexander Schmidt (vocals, guitar) and his schoolmate Oliver Gnass (bass, effects). Initially joined by keyboardist Aida Sikira, she left during the production of their album "Elegie," leading to a duo format until Kristine Warmhold joined in late 1993. The band is known for its exceptional productivity from 1990 to 2002, releasing 13 albums and a wealth of outtake material, earning notable reviews from popular magazines and Mick Mercer, though they remained largely unknown outside the German tape underground. All members, except for Olly, are professionally trained musicians and multi-instrumentalists, capable of incorporating a diverse array of atypical instruments while achieving high sound quality even with unprofessional equipment. Their works are primarily conceptual, inspired by absurdist philosophers and decadent poets like Albert Camus and Georg Trakl, exploring themes of social decay, urban oppression, misanthropy, and the futility of ambition. Despite these dark themes, the band members maintain a sense of humor, often referencing Vincent Price, David Bowie, and Jim Morrison, as well as including Elvis Presley covers on their albums. In 2014, the compilation "Locked in a Cold Room" was released, marking a resurgence of interest in their back catalog. This compilation made their complete discography available in digital remastered editions, featuring unreleased material and insights into the band's history
