Alternative TV was formed in March 1977 by a vocalist/guitarist and a guitarist. The band played their first gig at the Nottingham Punk Festival in May 1977. After experiencing various line-up changes, they released their first album in May 1978. Growing disillusioned with the punk scene, Mark led ATV into experimental territories in late 1978. After performing under a different name for a few gigs, the band broke up for the first time in late 1979. They reformed in 1981, split again, and restarted in 1984. Alternative TV is still currently active.
