Alton & Eddie began their musical journey after winning several dance competitions, leading to the formation of a singing duo. Heavily influenced by 1950s American R&B music, they started recording in 1959. Initially, they recorded a few songs before transitioning to a different label. Their notable success came with a massive hit during Dodds' first commercially-oriented recording session at Federal studios. They continued to record more tracks for another label. However, their collaboration came to an end after winning a major talent contest when Eddy moved to the U.S.
