Alva Noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto are an electronic collaboration that began in the late 1990s when they met during Sakamoto's first tour of Japan. Noto was commissioned to remix Sakamoto's material for the Japanese magazine Code Unfinished. Their two-year music exchange resulted in the release of an album. Following this release, they toured extensively in 2005. In 2007, the duo collaborated with another artist to create an audio-visual performance for the 400th anniversary of the city of Mannheim, which was released as an album in 2008. They continued to record several further albums until Sakamoto was diagnosed with cancer.
