Amanar is a contemporary band based in Kidal, in the extreme Northeast of Mali, which is the heart of Azawad. They play a modern version of the classic Tuareg guitar, often referred to as the “desert blues” sound. Amanar is at the forefront of avant-garde interpretations of this genre. Currently, the band is in exile throughout Mali and Algeria due to the crisis in Northern Mali, which has forced them to leave their homes.
