Amon Düül is a psychedelic/progressive rock band from Munich, Bavaria, Germany, formed in 1968. The band emerged from an artistic and political community's split, known for their collective and free musical improvisations. Amon Düül gained recognition with their eccentric debut album "Phallus Dei" in 1969, featuring musicians such as Chris Karrer and frontwoman Renate Knaup, along with guest Holger Trützsch on tribal percussions. They followed up with the seminal album "Yeti" in 1970, which solidified their career outside Germany. In 1972, they released "Tanz Der Lemminge," showcasing a diverse range of powerful songs alongside long improvisational pieces. This was followed by "Carnival in Babylon," which marked a shift towards shorter, more conventional songs, highlighted by Knaup's beautiful vocals. The band's classical period concluded with "Wolf City" (1972) and "Vive La Trance" (1973). After Knaup's departure to join Popol Vuh in 1974, Amon Düül II released a few albums before splitting up. In 1981, they attempted to reform with the album "Vortex," featuring Knaup again, but with limited success. The band reformed in 1995, releasing "Nada Moonshine" and performing in Europe and Japan.
