Anastacia is an American singer and songwriter born on September 17, 1968, in Chicago, Illinois. She has achieved significant success in Europe, Asia, South Africa, and South America, though her impact in the United States has been more limited. Describing her sound as 'sprock,' a blend of soul, pop, and rock, Anastacia released her debut album, Not That Kind, in 2000, which garnered multi-platinum sales in Australia, New Zealand, and much of Europe. This success led to critical acclaim and recognition, including being awarded 'Best-selling International Artist' at the World Music Awards in 2000, following the release of the fourth biggest European single and the biggest Australian single of that year. Her subsequent albums continued to achieve multi-platinum sales across Europe, establishing her as one of the fastest and biggest-selling artists of the new millennium. By 2005, Anastacia was recognized for worldwide sales exceeding 20 million. Known for her powerful soul voice and her petite stature of 5 feet 3 inches (160 cm), she earned the nickname "The Little Lady with the Big Voice." Additionally, she is recognized for her trademark darkly tinted glasses, which she continued to wear frequently even after undergoing laser eye surgery in August 2005.
